As an essential part of our business, we collect and manage data of policyholders, clients and website visitors.

ALPS takes data protection very seriously and is committed to protecting and respecting the privacy of our policyholders, clients and website visitors.  ALPS is a ‘data controller’ and a ‘data processor’ for the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation 2018 (which supersedes the Data Protection Act 1998).

This Privacy Policy explains how we use any Personal Data we may collect about you.

What Information Do We Collect?

We collect and process information about you when you purchase an insurance product through us. Personal Data includes your name, date of birth, address, telephone number, email address and other information provided by you.

We may record your communications with us when you contact our claims / customer care team.

Before we process your sensitive and confidential data we will seek your explicit consent.

How Will We Use The Information About You?

Personal information which you supply to us will mainly be used to arrange and administer your insurance cover with an underwriter.  This is necessary to enable us comply with our contractual obligations towards you.

We may also share personal data with authorised third parties, this is necessary where we are required to do so by law, where we need to administer our business, to source, place and administer your insurance, to perform underwriting activities and to process claims.  Some examples are as follows:

  • Insurers;
  • Underwriters;
  • Credit reference agencies;
  • Claims handling companies;
  • Insurance brokers;
  • Reinsurers.

We may also use it for the following reasons:

  • Fraud prevention;
  • Auditing purposes;
  • Legal and regulatory compliance purposes;
  • Our own legitimate purposes, for example, debt collection;
  • Statistical analysis;
  • Responding to applications or information requested by you;
  • To allow you to participate in interactive features of our service, when you choose to do so;
  • Make suggestions and recommendations to you and other users of our site about goods or services that may interest you or them.

We may share your personal information with any member of our group, which means our ultimate holding company and its subsidiaries, as defined in section 1159 of the UK Companies Act 2006.

We are also working closely with third parties (including, for example, business partners, sub-contractors in technical, payment and delivery services, advertising networks, analytics providers, search information providers, credit reference agencies) and may receive information about you from them.
  • Cookies. Our website uses cookies to distinguish you from other users of our website. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you browse our website and also allows us to improve our site.   • Recruitment Pages. If you wish to apply for work our recruitment pages can be used to provide us with your application and your information. We will only use that information for the purposes of your job application. No cookies are used in that process. You will still be able to use the recruitment pages if you disable cookies.

Where We Store Your Personal Data

We do not transfer your personal data outside of the European Economic Area.  Our data is normally stored in the UK.  All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers.

How We Protect Your Information

All information we collect will be in accordance with our internal data protection policies.  Our staff are trained in the data protection principles.  We review our security arrangements regularly.  We have a data retention policy and will delete old data in accordance with that policy. We are required to retain Policy Schedules for 7 years.

Your Rights

You have a series of rights under the Data Protection Act 2018, namely:

  • The right to be informed about the personal data being processed;
  • The right of access to your personal data;
  • The right to object to the processing of your personal data;
  • The right to restrict the processing of your personal data;
  • The right to rectification of your personal data;
  • The right to erasure of your personal data;
  • The right to data portability (to receive an electronic copy of your personal data);
  • Rights relating to automated decision making including profiling.

Individuals can exercise their Individual Rights at any time.  As mandated by law we will not charge a fee to process these requests, however, if your request is considered to be repetitive, wholly unfounded and/or excessive, we are entitled to charge a reasonable administration fee.

The flow of data within the insurance sector is complex and we ask you to bear this in mind when exercising your rights of access to your information.  Where we may be reliant on other organisations to help satisfy your request, this may impact on timescales.
